Dalmatia definitely has a lot to offer to lovers of good food and drink! We have selected the best tips for restaurants and places in Central and Southern Dalmatia for you in this itinerary. Along with sophisticated flavors, we have also added tips on historical sites and beautiful views! Additionally, we definitely recommend reserving spots in the selected restaurants in advance, especially if you are traveling in the peak season.
Day 1: Split
Split is a beautiful ancient city, whose historic part is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our tip for the morning program is to explore the old town, culminating in a visit to the Diocletian's Palace, an impressive structure from the 4th century. The palace also includes the Cathedral of St. Domnius. Here you will also find our lunch stop recommendation – Villa Spiza. For dinner, we recommend heading to Restaurant ZOI.
Villa Spiza: A hidden gem in the heart of Diocletian's Palace, offering authentic Dalmatian dishes with fresh and locally sourced ingredients.
- Tip: Make sure to reserve a spot in advance, as the restaurant is small and very popular.
Restaurant ZOI: Located in the historic center of Split on the Riva promenade, this restaurant offers modern Mediterranean cuisine along with beautiful sea views.
- Tip: We recommend trying their excellent selection of fresh seafood and homemade pasta.
Day 2: Split–Hvar
On the second morning, we recommend sailing to Hvar. Even if you are not attracted to the bustling nightlife in the island's namesake main town, we have one lure that might convince you – dinner at Giaxa Restaurant.
Giaxa Restaurant: Located in the picturesque streets of the old town of Hvar, this restaurant offers traditional Dalmatian dishes with a modern twist.
- Tip: We recommend the tasting menu, which includes several local specialties paired with quality wines from regional wineries.
Day 3: Hvar
We suggest spending the following morning exploring the island. You can head to the Španjola Fortress, which offers a beautiful view not only of the main town but also of the nearby Pakleni Islands, which you can also visit. The island features mysterious caves with emerald-turquoise waters for swimming or the village of Sveta Nedelja with a beautiful beach. In the afternoon, you can sail to Palmižana – but first, make sure to reserve a table at Laganini Lounge Bar & Fish House.
Laganini Lounge Bar & Fish House: This is one of the best seafood restaurants in Croatia. It is located on the private island of Palmižana, accessible by water taxi from Hvar.
- Tip: Try the fresh fish straight from the sea or the St. Jacob’s scallops!
Day 4: Korčula
On the fourth day, we planned a trip to Korčula. This island is interesting not only for its historic center surrounded by stone walls or the birthplace of Marco Polo. Korčula is also famous for its wineries that produce excellent, mainly white wines. Once you stock up, you can head to dinner at LD Restaurant.
LD Restaurant: Located in a former summer residence of Croatian nobles, this restaurant provides a unique experience of modern cuisine with an emphasis on Croatian ingredients.
- Tip: Don't forget to make a reservation in advance and try the homemade passion fruit cheesecake.
Day 5: Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik probably needs no further introduction. After you have enjoyed the views from its walls and the beauty of the ancient streets, head to dinner at Restaurant 360.
Restaurant 360: Awarded a Michelin star, this establishment is located in the historic part of Dubrovnik and offers contemporary Mediterranean cuisine.
- Tip: While enjoying quality food paired with select wines, you can also savor the beautiful view of the vibrant medieval city.
